Mention Gating
By default, your agent only responds in group chats when mentioned. This prevents the AI from responding to every message in busy groups.
Mention Detection
ThinkFleet detects mentions through:
- Native mentions —
@YourBotin the platform's mention system - Text patterns — Custom regex patterns (e.g., matching a name or phone number)
- Reply-to — When someone replies directly to a bot message
Activation Modes
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Mention (default) | Responds only when mentioned |
| Always | Responds to every message (may return NO_REPLY if not relevant) |
Session Isolation
Group conversations always use isolated sessions, separate from your DMs. This means:
- Group context never leaks into private conversations
- Each group has its own conversation history
- Different groups can route to different agents
Access Control
You can control group access with:
- Group policy —
disabled(no groups),allowlist(specific groups only), oropen(all groups) - Sender restrictions — Only allow specific users to interact in groups
- Tool restrictions — Limit which tools the agent can use in group contexts
Per-Group Configuration
Each group can be configured individually:
- Custom mention requirements
- Agent routing (different agent per group)
- Tool access restrictions
- Activation mode override
